Professor David Littlejohn

Professor David Littlejohn studied at the University of Strathclyde gaining a 1st Class BSc honours degree in Chemistry in 1975 and a PhD in Analytical Chemistry in 1978. Following a period working at ICI, he returned to Strathclyde as the Pye Foundation Lecturer in 1981. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer and then appointed to the Philips Chair in Analytical Chemistry in 1988.

He became Head of Department in 2005. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry in 1991 and Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1998. Davids research covers a broad range of analytical chemistry topics, including atomic spectrometry, chromatography, environmental analytical chemistry, conservation science and process analysis.

His activities in the development and application of in-line, on-line and non-invasive methods of process monitoring cover a range of techniques and data analysis methods, including NIR, MIR, and Raman spectrometries, acoustic techniques, NMR spectrometry and mass spectrometry.

Dr Richard Dennis

Richard has a wide-ranging background in optoelectronics stretching over 35 years. Richard held post-doctoral appointments at both Reading and Freiburg (Germany) before joining Heriot Watt University in 1970. He contributed to the academic life of the growing Physics Department, rising to become a Senior Lecturer. During 1976-78 he was a Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt foundation working at the University of Munich (Germany).

Richard's research interests span diverse areas of semiconductors, laser physics, non-linear optics, molecular spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, photon statistics and the nature of light. Richard was associated with Edinburgh Instruments Ltd since it was formed in 1971 as the first academic spin-out company on the Heriot Watt University Research Park.

He was Managing Director and more recently Vice Chairman over a period exceeding 20 years. In 2005 Richard became co-founder of Gilden Photonics Ltd and is excited by the challenge of growing another successful opto-electronics company together with friends and colleagues across the globe.

Martin Warman

Martin runs a successful consultancy company (Martin Warman Consultancy Ltd) supporting the development and implementation of PAT within the pharmaceutical industry. He has 14 years relevant experience in the field having previously led the PAT Development Team as part of the Process Analytical Support Group (PASG) within Pfizer Global Manufacturing; during which time he gained experience in a developing and implementing a wide variety of PAT solutions, from spectroscopic, through chromatographic and including acoustic.

Prior to this, he joined Dionex from Shell Research Centre, where he provided analytical support, developing novel environmental analysis methods and technologies in support of Shell's bio-restoration/bio-remediation projects, and environmental monitoring programs in the North Sea.
